Macromedia takes a leaf out of the NetObjects book - I used to love a software package called NetObjects Fusion. It was wonderful. I'm not sure if it was the software itself, which was elegant, simple and powerful - or it was the fact that I was the Evangelist for the software here in Australia when it launched a few years ago. I ran lots of training courses for Fusion and was disappointed when Fusion didn't get the following it deserved.

When we launch Fusion, the software was significantly less featured than it is now. Some short-sighted people chose to focus on the limitations, and ignored the potential. I on the otherhand was a true believer.

I used NetObjects Fusion to publish my online book - Leadership and the Perfect Outpost.

NetObjects Fusion was the first real WYSIWYG web editor that provided a "DTP" like layout of pages - not the "Word Processor" style layout of the other tools that were available at the time, like FrontPage, HotDog, HotMetal Pro and of course NaviPress.

Now it seems that Macromedia has "lifted" the MX suffix from NetObjects and has applied it to the revision of their entire new product line. Perhaps a little of the NetObjects magic will live on forever. I'm just so glad that Jonathon will be able to remember NetObjects Fusion everytime he launchs Dreamweaver MX or Fireworks MX and sees those two little letters.

Ahhhhh. How sweet it is.
