I'm in a really lousy mood today. So here it goes:
Growing up in East-Germany most kids were taught that America was run by corporations and that the individual voice of democracy was only a marketing gimmick. After 20 years in the US I can say that both statements are true. Yes, corporate America runs the show. It doesn't matter who is the White House.
If democracy hasn't completely dissappeared in the large stinking trough of soft money contributions it is only due to the fact that the "little people" in this country -the middle class - the folks that don't make millions - the refugees and imigrants - it is only because these indivduals have a dream. And no matter how this dream is abused by corporate America, no matter how it is prostituted by politicians it continues to provide a light to the rest of the world. And it is that light that set the Communist regime of birth country aflame. It is that light that continues to drive out oppression.
I wish that this same light would point its unyielding glare at all the nonsense that has been going on in Congress, in the Senate and in the White House and once and for all burn the self-serving legislation that continues to drive the monetary link between corporate America and its citizen representatives.
