I just watched Armin Zoeggler of Italy win Olympic Gold in luge - beating Georg Hackl by the smallest margin. Its been eight years since the Italians have won an Olympic medal. Paul Hildgartner was the last one. Paul was a pen-pal and good friend whenever we had championships in my hometown (since East-Germany didn't allow its citizens to visit the West)
Luge trivia: Much of the current style and form that is used by the athletes today was developed by the members of my home town luge club about 25 years ago. Some modifications came as the result of teenage bravado and against the will of our coaches. (Like getting rid of the strap)
