Oracle buys WebGain. Mostly because Toplink is a nice OR Mapper and fits in with Oracles product line.
I think if Microsoft wants to attract Java Developer marktshare it has to explain how Datasets can be better than verbose Domain Object Models. And circular logic should not be allowed in this explanation. So far I've only seen comments like " Domain Object Models require some sort of OR Mapping. Datasets allow you to skip that step because they contain the hierachical information that a typical OR map has to address ..." That does not tell me exactly how datasets are superior to the Domain Object Model. It just tells me that they are different.
By the way - if anyone else wants to take a crack at it I'd be very happy.
