Elvis Costello picks his favourite 500 records.
Imagine putting together a list like this. Wow. I feel overwhelmed by the prospect of reading it.

USA Today: Europe's music-piracy solution: taxes. The legislation, which takes effect in each of the 15 EU nations after being ratified by the national parliaments, allows countries to add fees for each blank CD or CD burner sold -- mirroring existing laws in Italy and Germany, where additional charges of between 5% and 10% are already being assessed.
I'm an audio pro. I need burners and blank discs to get my production work done. I'm not stealing someone's copyrighted material. I'm producing it. Why should I pay copyright fees? That said, I support the idea in principle. Has someone got a better solution to making sure artists get paid for their work? It's a tricky problem though. Do we eventually charge taxes on harddrives as well? And what if I'm just using the CD to back up my personal data? Welcome to the imperfect digital world.
