You Have OS X, So Now What Are You Going To Do? (MacEdition) [Applesurf] [Brent Simmons: Mac OS X]
A quick scan of the first page indicates that this is a fine introduction. Note to self: read this!

From MacWorld "by the end of the year, Apple will be the world's largest supplier of a Unix-based operating system... even if most of its users don't know that there's Unix underneath."
What a riot. I love it. From the same story . . .
When it comes to my experience with Mac OS X 10.0, that's not true at all. Running Mac OS X, my Mac -- and my 500MHz PowerBook G3 is not exactly a slowpoke -- seems much less responsive much of the time.
Mr. Gore and I have the same machine and the same impression. It's too damn slow. I ran the BeOS on my 9600 almost 3 years ago and it was much faster. It wasn't as pretty but it sure as hell did run.

Got myself a copy of OS X on the day it came out. I'm likin' it. It was a bit rough at first. I realized I was not going to be able to rely on a lot of the knowledge I had accumulated over the years with the old OS.
It's ironic that I seem to have more good choices on OS X for a web browser than I do on the classic OS. I've tried out OmniWeb and it seems great. ie is fine. Haven't tried iCab. I hope there's an Opera version. Haven't looked yet.
Eudora has a beta version which is good because I paid for Eudora not too long ago and would like to get some mileage out of it. Mail from Apple looked pretty slick in some respects.
Right now the biggest whole in the tools I use is UserLand. I'm going to have to figure out how live without Frontier and the groovy little scripts I've built. But Radio? No, I need this thing ported. Can't wait.
