The Coming Impact of MPEG-4. When I watch television I don't need separate TVs to watch NBC and CBS, but if I want to view a video from CNBC.com, I have to have Windows Media Player installed, when maybe I would've prefered using the QuickTime player. Imagine the benefits that would come to the streaming industry if a standard format was used and implemented, leaving the consumer to decide which player they would like to use. This is where MPEG-4 could bridge the gap between end users, providers, and media player providers.
Great. I was thinking about converting the CBC Records catalogue to QuickTime. If this happens soon enough I can go straight to MPEG-4 instead. And I'll feel comfortable there because I know that QT will play it.
