AppleTurns: "Sorry to burst your bubbles, folks, but the official AtAT stance is that the iWalk is still just a hoax-- although now it's a much better hoax than it used to be." [Scripting News]
This is funny. A website dedicated to the soap opera that is Apple. Done with love, no doubt.

Paul Palinkas: "2 days to Macworld San Francisco. The only significant thing that will occur during your pathetic lifetime." [Scripting News]
My favourite Apple hype page. I suppose I should archive the real ones for comparison in the future. But I'll let someone else do that!

Hmmm. I think I just heard my first audio ad on a website. I was reading a page at Ziff Davis when I heard a voice say "How do I handle new data centres when the ones I have are so tough to manage." Ooh la la. Yes, I can see that there's an hp ad with a speaker icon. Impressive in one way. Scarey in another.

Behind the Macworld Expo Veil While I personally believe that next week's pyrotechnics will focus on blowing out current desktop Macs, I won't rule out the possibility that Apple is ready to reveal the next steps of its handheld-computing road map.
Here's a more level headed look at what might be coming next Monday.

iWalk Looks More Like iWish At first glance, the videos look authentic. But to the eyes of many Mac fans -- who are gathering in their hordes at discussion boards and rumor sites, trying to guess what's causing Apple to make swaggering claims about what will be released at Macworld next week -- the pictures and videos seem fishy.
Things are getting out of hand! But my gosh it sure is fun.

I'm not able to connect to Canuck this evening. I got in briefly this afternoon but had a post 10.1.2 install kernal panic and haven't been able to get back in since. Coincidence I'm sure but frustrating nonetheless.

Virtual PC Is Virtually Perfect You can load DOS, Linux, OS 2, Windows 2000, 95, 98, ME, XP Home and Pro, and of course OS X and Mac OS 9. You can run any combination; RAM is the only limiting factor. While this trick has other uses, the popular purpose is to impress people who have trouble running just one operating system on their PC. And it really is impressive.
OK, I picked the fun quote. But read on. There is some really impressive and wonderfully useful stuff in there that seems to make running Windows on your Mac better than running it on your PC. But then there's the minor issue of speed. Ahem.

Talking on the phone with Dave Jacobs, I asked if he has a clue what Apple's going to announce on the 7th. "I don't really know," he says, "but I've heard about the iDock, which is a flat-screen on an 802.11a network that moves your desktop anywhere you want to work in the home." A very thin computer, just a keyboard and screen (maybe just a screen and a pen) and relatively inexpensive. Sweet! [Scripting News]
Yowsa. Come on Dave. Don't spoil the surprise!

Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | Flip a coin and see what turns up But the eight types of coin - released across Euroland in consumer-friendly "minikits" this weekend - form a clear link with the member countries.
I didn't know that! Well that should help ease the pain. I gather the bills are generalized and not country-specific.

I've certainly heard some of this guy's music but I've never payed attention. I do remember Wieslaw asking me if I'd listened to him. WW's a pretty straight church-going guy. But he also knows a thing or two about music and performances. WW told me that he saw him on the Grammys and that he was incredible, particularly in how he played with the beat, pushing it this way and that. I really ought to pay attention.
