Brian Whitaker of The Guardian makes a writing mistake that illustrates his biases. In an article on the differences between Europe and the United States he writes,

The third but perhaps the most important factor is that deliberately creating turmoil throughout the Middle East diverts attention from the underlying problem - the Israeli occupation that has blighted the region for more than half a century and has played a large part in the rise of Islamic militancy.

Half a century? So it’s Israel that is the problem, not control of the West Bank and Gaza.

The speech by British Ambassador to Israel mentioned in the article is on the other hand quite reasonable, but denying arms sales to Israel, firing Israelis from academic position sand demanding that Israeli products be specially labeled undercuts any efforts by the British people to take a useful role in bring peace to the region.

Even people writing in The Independent realise that Mona Baker’s policy of firing Israelis from her translation studies journals is idiotic and verges on anti-Semitism.
