In addition to being biased, Chris McGreal at The Guardian may not know how to count. In a story that mentions Israeli troops killing an infiltrater attempting to enter the Golan Height from Syria he writes: Syria in turn accused Israeli troops of firing on its policemen and violating a ceasefire agreement on a patch of the Arab-Israeli frontier that has been largely quiet for 30 years. No mention of the 1973 Yom Kippur War in which Syria attacked Israel? 11:42:30 PM ![]() |
Robert Jordan’s Crossroads of Twilight, the tenth book in the Wheel of Time series has been released. 10 books is a huge series that makes the following partial description in the Fall 1991 Bakka Bookie Sheet from the Bakka Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Bookstore look more than a little inaccurate: Robert Jordan, THE GREAT HUNT: WHEEL OF TIME: BOOK TWO. (Tor 6.99). Both this book, and it’s prequel, EYE OF THE WORLD (Tor, 6.95), comprise the first third of Jordan’s epic – and I mean epic – saga about the forces of good, evil, and the inevitable turn of the wheel; about fate and choice of Rand, who might be the Dragon Reborn – he hero that the prophecies have promised. 11:31:35 PM ![]() |

The New York Times on McWane, Inc, a secretive and apparently very unsafe business: As reported yesterday in The New York Times, McWane Inc., one of the world's largest makers of cast-iron water and sewer pipes, is also one of the most dangerous businesses in America. The company has by far the worst safety record in an industry that, for three of the last four years, has had the highest injury rate in the nation. McWane has been cited for more than 400 safety violations since 1995, four times more than its six major competitors combined. The story is also covered by CBC News: the fifth estate and PBS’s Frontline. 11:02:12 PM ![]() |
The separation fence between Israel and the West Bank is proving to be extremely popular among Israeli voters. Likud is being forced to join Labor in being seen to support its construction. 10:46:00 PM ![]() |
Even some United Nations organisations see the harm of boycotts against Israel. Ha’aretz reports that UNESCO, the UN agency for cultural preservation and education is critical of a move by an elite French university to isolate Israeli academics. 10:45:44 PM ![]() |
