Professors shun Daniel Pipes

The National Post reports that a lunch by York's Centre for International and Security Studies with Daniel Pipes as the guest of honor has been cancelled. This time its, Daniel Pipes’ role with Campus Watch, a U.S.-based group that acts as a watchdog on professors studying the Middle East that is said to be the cause.

Daniel Pipes banned from York University Student Centre

In response to pressure from pro-Palestinian student groups, the York University Student Centre has barred pro-Israel and pro-US Middle Eastern expert Daniel Pipes from speaking at its restaurant on campus. The Centre in part claims it fears Concordia style riots if the talk goes ahead.

University officials are however trying to find another location for him to speak on campus. If they cannot it would show that the thuggish imitation tactics used at Concordia are working to shut up anyone who opposes the pro-Palestinian groups.

Daniel Pipes will also speak on Tuesday January 28th at Beth Tikvah Synagogue at 8pm in Toronto. Tickets for $20 by calling the sponsor, Canadian Friends of Hebrew University at 416-485-8000.

Marcus Gee writes in the Globe and Mail on Franco-German appeasement of Iraq and states that unless they come up with a plan for Saddam Hussein’s downfall the United States and Britain should attack Iraq by themselves.

Unfortunately it would likely be without Canada, as the Canadian government wants the UN to authorize any action against Iraq.

I bet it would have been impossible to get UN authorization for action against Germany in World War One or Two had it existed. Furthermore, in real-life, the Korea War was only authorized because the Soviet Union was boycotting the UN with the vote to authorize force against North Korea was past.
