ExtremeTech reports that web security firm White Hat Security has released a whitepaper detailing a new type of Cross-Site Scripting attacking against web servers called Cross-Site Tracing (XST). Based on the use of the Trace command (a ping-like command in HTTP) the attack can allow hackers to gain control of web servers and web enabled devices such as printers.

Meanwhile in the physical world the New York Times reported on the release of details of an even scarier security problem. It reported the release by an AT&T researcher of a method in which anyone with access to a lock that is part of a master lock system, such as an apartment building and a key to that lock could in a few steps recreate the master key. This would enable them to open any lock on that system.
