Writing in the Globe and Mail Hal Niedzviecki takes aim at current state of science fiction. Having visited this year’s World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon) in Toronto he states that science fiction suffers in comparison to real world events such as the war in Iraq, and the Internet as that it no longer is a force for choice change.

However dismissing science fiction is fairy-tales set in the future and holding The Matrix as an example to strive for indicates that the author has missed the mark.
