"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

Washington DC -- Attorney General John Ashcroft explained today why he had recused himself from the Enron case, but not the Microsoft case.

Ashcroft said, "Even I wouldn't try to deny I've been in Enron's pocket from the start, but Microsoft's $20,000 gift -- I mean donation -- to me was irrelevant to our decision there. What mattered in the Microsoft case was the overall $6 million donations, of which my share was obviously inconsequential."

In Houston, James C. Baker, III said Ashcroft "only wishes he had been in Enron's pocket from the start," noting that Enron's contribution "wasn't even enough for Ashcroft to beat a dead man."

Baker didn't specify how much Enron had given him over the years, but he winked -- as if it was a lot.

Political Correctness Statement: The above is absurd, not worth the paper it's printed on.
