"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

Campaign contributions are just the tip of the iceberg, of course. For example, by one tally, media companies gave about 60% [opensecrets.org] of their contributions to democrats. (That's the only industry category that gave more to democrats.) But if you added in $9 million or so to Colin Powell (for going to some AOL Time/Warner meetings), it pretty much evens out. Similarly, Enron's 85% to republicans would go way up if you included money they pay to James C. Baker III, and the rest of the Bush-family cronies on their payroll.
