Comment -- New findings indicate that the Universe may not be infinite in
all directions. The article says "There's a hint in the data that if you
traveled far and fast in the direction of the constellation Virgo, you'd
return to Earth from the opposite direction," said Dr. Max Tegmark, a
cosmologist at the University of Pennsylvania.
This is still another example of how, in astronomy at least, the more we
learn the more mysteries we seem to uncover.
News -- Got outside in the cold last night with binoculars and spotted
Jupiter very near the Beehive Cluster:

Comment -- Thanks, Brandon, for alerting me that the sky was extra clear and
steady last night. It was startling to see Jupiter and it's four moons
located in the same field of view as the Beehive. The Beehive, since it is
visible with the naked eye from a dark site (not Holt anymore,
unfortunately), has certainly been viewed by humans for thousands of years.
It was noted in a Greek star catalog in the third century B.C.
News -- New survey finds growing numbers in U.S. back war against Iraq:
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/11/politics/11POLL.html
Comment -- What surprised me the most is that this was the lead story on the
New York Times Web site. The Times, at least on their editorial page, has
been the leading anti-war newspaper. The article says "By many measures, the
poll found that the nation is behind Mr. Bush on Iraq. And for all the signs
of dissent and protest around the nation, it would appear that support for
war is on the rise."
So let's forget the U.N. and get the war started and finished, quickly. I'm
guessing this weekend, because the 101 Airborne will have all their
equipment by then.
News -- Military uses lots of commercial technology:

Comment -- Remember that Iraq used off-the-shelf GPS units to aim their
Scuds in 1991.
