News - Overnight poll shows strong support for President Bush: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A44887-2003Mar18.html

Comment - "Seven in 10 said they supported Bush's televised call to go to war without the blessing of the United Nations unless Saddam Hussein and his sons leave Iraq within 48 hours. An equally large majority believe that Bush has done enough to win support from other nations. More than two in three said his policies on Iraq are the right ones, although fewer than half are strongly convinced."

News -- This column from Victor Davis Hanson is a parody of how the media will report on the war: http://www.nationalreview.com/hanson/hanson030703.asp

Comment -- He's absolutely right. No matter how well the war goes, there are going to be people crabbing and complaining. In fact, if the war goes too smoothly...then critics will gripe that the ease of our conquest proves that the war was unnecessary!

As you probably have picked up from reading my blog entries, I'm behind the President 100 percent. In a world of weapons of mass destruction, I'm not too concerned about anything happening to us in mid-Michigan. But I worry all the time about Vanessa as she jets back and forth across the country and visits Manhattan, Chicago, San Francisco. The only way to keep her safe, and preserve our free and open society, is to take pre-emptive action against the monsters in the world. If there were a nest of black widow spiders in your attic, would you wait until one of your children was bitten before you wiped out the nest?

News - Driveway astronomy Friday and Saturday nights gave me great views of Saturn and Jupiter. Here's an interesting article from National Review that tries to explain simply the recent scientific findings about the shape and future of the Universe: http://www.nationalreview.com/derbyshire/derbyshire031703.asp

Comment -- Derbyshire explains that the Universe may be inner-tube shaped: "The universe may not be infinite, nor even very large. It is entirely possible that one of the distant galaxies we can see with our telescopes is in fact our own galaxy, its light having traveled all the way round the cosmos and back to our eyes."
