Ok.  Now I Really Am Gone.  Returning on Tuesday

This blog will not be updated until Tuesday night I expect.  I'm off to Web Builder 2002 as a speaker and can't blog remotely.  Enjoy the respite from my prolific blogging and expect much, much more when I return (I can't blog but I *can* write)!

If you're in Vegas, stop by and say hi.

Open Office Really Can Open PowerPoint Presentations

Since I travel with a Linux notebook these days, I thought it would be interesting to try my slides with Open Office.  Interesting -- they really do open well.  The only problems are font related (example -- bullet characters are modified somewhat).  And this could be my own fault for just changing my whole font system over to TrueType fonts about 20 minutes ago.  Whether or not I use the WebBuilder system for my presentation or my own notebook, at least I can practice without having to print out my slides.  Most cool.

Very Nice!

Travel Tip: Identifying Your Luggage

Like a lot of business travelers, my luggage falls into the Generic, Black, Wheeled category.  I know that the airlines say "Tie something distinctive onto the bag so you recognize it.  BLAH, BLAH, BLAH".  Everything distinctive I have is something I DON'T want to tie onto luggage.  So here's a tip:

Use a Sock

Any color so long as its not black will do.  Think about it -- what else are you going to do with those left over socks after the dryer ate the other one?  And who other than you would want a Sockified Suitcase?

Good Fonts Under Linux for Almost All Websites

If you've ever noticed that websites and fonts under Linux don't look as good as they do under Windows then install this:

http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/

If you run Mandrake 8.2 (and perhaps other Mandraken) then you need to go to www.rpmfind.net and search for freetype with a Mandrake architecture and install both options.  You'll also need to edit the SPEC file and change the /bin/ to /sbin.

If this meant absolutely nothing to you then you just don't need it and know that soon this blog will be restructured so you don't have to worry about it (I'm already tagging the content to go to the right new blogs as soon as they are created).
