Further Proof that Lindows is Clue Free

Lindows, the new company of Michael Robertson, the founder of www.mp3.com, is trying to take on Microsoft Windows with a Linux based distribution or "Lindows".  Lindows has a troubled reputation in the Open Source community.  They've had some apparent (although unclear if true) violations of the GPL and now they are partnering with Netscape! And not Mozilla:

Lindows, the maker of a consumer-friendly version of the Linux operating system, announced Tuesday that it would bundle Netscape Communication's Web browsing and communication technology into its software.

The start-up software maker collaborated with Netscape's corporate parent company AOL Time Warner to integrate Netscape 7.0 into LindowsOS version 2.0, which was released last week.

News.com

As others have observed but as I'll shout from the (metaphorical) rooftop: Netscape is Dead!  Long Live Mozilla!  Seriously -- Netscape is a repackaging of the Mozilla technology with advertising thrown in.  That's right -- they take out the Mozilla ad blocking features and add in more advertising stuff.  And you want this, why?  As far as I can tell, there isn't a single new feature that the Netscape team adds on top of Mozilla (and if I'm wrong, please tell me).  Sad but true.

It's Gonna Be a Weird Day

You know it's going to be a weird day when your first email of the day is written in what can only be described as "Mission Impossible" style or the first sentence is "Your mission, should you choose to accept it ...".  Expect a high degree of random-ness and bizarro stuff today.  The reason for all this will become more apparent with tomorrow's blog entries.
