Good Article on Wlan / Wifi Security

I don't know all that much about WiFi security but I know that I need to know more.  A few random web searches and serendipitious browsing gave me this:

Wanted: A Good List of San Francisco WiFi Points

I'm looking for a good list of San Francisco WiFi accessible points, preferably free.  A friend, located at 2340 Pacific Ave, zip =  94115, just emailed me that address and said "Help!".  I found this list:

http://www.80211hotspots.com/na/2000238/2051305/

But it doesn't seem to take geographic proximity into account i.e. it will tell me a street address but how the *(&*$#(*$# do I know if Center Street is close to Pacific Ave ?

Thanks in advance.

Another option is the new Starbucks / T-Mobile stuff but:

    1. Is it real ?  Anyone seen a Starbucks in San Francisco where the wifi works?
    2. What does it cost?  The Starbucks press release mentions a 24 hour evaluation but then what?

Commenting Temporarily Offline

The UserLand comment server, radiocomments.userland.com, seems to be down.  I saw in the support forums that if you have Script Debugger installed you essentially can't view a radio blog because of this (time out type things) so I stripped the comments to see if it makes it better.

Marketing 101: The Sign

Never Give Up! Never Surrender!

Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest

Note: Any high tech business is really a small business with a sophisticated set of goals and exit strategy. As such, the concerns of a small business, even trivial concerns, such as signage are relevant.  Hence this essay.

Just before I left on my last trip to speak at Scoble's Web Builder 2002 conference, I took the time out to get my hair cut. As I always do before any type of public appearance. Anyway, I've been getting my hair cut by the same person since 1998 and you'd think that I wouldn't have a problem finding her salon, would you? And, while I do fall into that category of "directionally challenged" indviduals, I am NOT that bad. There's an easy explanation for this -- the salon, London Hair Design in Swampscott, Massachusetts, has close to 0 external signage and a landlord that won't allow it. Still there are options:

Ask Not What You Can Do For Mozilla, But What Mozilla Can Do for You

With apologies to Robert F. Kennedy...  Anyway, the best way to see how vibrant and strong the Mozilla project is, is to look at the quantity of third party add on software that is being developed:

Wow!

I'm Back and Boston is Hotter than Vegas

You know something is wrong when Boston is between 15 - 20 degrees hotter than Las Vegas.  Sigh.  I arrived home and became, well, a very tired, very useless house plant.  Between a red eye flight, boston traffic, a time zone change and the heat and humidity, about all that I and the cats accomplished yesterday was sweating heavily.

It may break today and, at least for now, it's cool enough to do things
