Really good comments on the dichotomy between European and American bloggers can by found on Dewayne's blog. Seriously worth reading. [ Go ]

Scoble observes that Dell isn't doing a tablet (and that's about all he says). Good point and not all that surprising to me. Dell is *smart* and I think that they know that tablets are largely early adopters and vertical markets right now -- and that's all they may ever be. My prediction is that tablet sales will be highly disappointing for at least the next 24 months. First Mira and now Tablets. I'm so underimpressed by Microsoft lately -- but as everyone knows, I'm a harsh ass Microsoft critic. [ Go ]

Comparing Pear and ADOdb is one of those PHP things that we're all curious about. I haven't used it but I'd also look at Metabase (sorry for no link) since someone I respect technically really likes it. [ Go ]

From PHP Everywhere comes a link to the blogging of ApacheCon (which I'm really sorry I'm missing since I won't get to see Shelley of Sams who did an absolutely wonderful job at PHP-CON; it's not easy to be the only vendor at a geek event and she did it with both style and grace). [ Go ]

Simon's commenting that "we need some standardization in the naming of XML feed buttons". I'd agree but I'd also comment "we need an XML feed button that means something to Mom". I mean seriously -- putting XML in orange doesn't say to anyone "give me this information as a feed". Given that XML is a meta grammar not just for RSS why do we do this? Who was asleep at the switch on this one? As hard as it would me to change couldn't someone like Bryan Bell come up with a better icon? [ Go ]

Kasia has some really good commments on the new Aberdeen report that Linux has more security issues than Microsoft. One phrase comes to mind: Horsepuckey. In case you didn't know it, Aberdeen is the biggest liar in the market research world in my experience. They were even cited by the Wall Street Journal this year (May???) as being a market research firm that writes what you pay them to write in a front page story on the lies in IT market research . Apparently this report was "sponsored" but they don't say by who. Sigh. [ Go ]

Bad Yahoo! Bad! Naughty. Read about John's rather interesting experience with Yahoo and HotJobs. That's just plain raunchy. But I don't think it's as bad as John made it out to be. To me it's more disappointing. [ Go ]

John has another reason to avoid Windows. Not sure that the world really needed another but what the heck .... [ Go ]

A really good Chandler (Mitch Kapor's new PIM software) weblog by a new developer who joined the team. [ Go ]

Bill Kearney is wondering about why RDF needs to be human readable. Interesting question. I see his point but as someone who has greatly suffered thru writing import routines for complex binaries, it's not all bad. I mean until your company has implemented a MS-Word import filter with support for formatting and even fast saves you haven't experienced hell. Or mental flagellation. Or perhaps Dante's 6th circle. The Drupal Filters module is apparently the way to implement comment "bleeping" so no "sh*t, f*ck", etc makes it in. [ Go ]

McGee seems to really like ActiveWords. [ Go ] Oh and a tip about your CSS will illustrated in McGee's blog -- McGee lets his main body tag be sizable but his links are sized at a different ratio making for an interesting (but not all bad) look and feel when you bump up the point size.
