I Just Moved to Linux But ...
I just heard from Scott St. John and he was telling me about his recent move to Linux:
(08:46:26) scottstjohn103: Good Morning. Day 4 with Linux on Vaio (08:46:38) fuzzygroup: Really ? (08:46:40) fuzzygroup: cool (08:46:41) scottstjohn103: Yeah (08:46:47) scottstjohn103: Got ACPI working! (08:46:57) fuzzygroup: outstanding. (08:47:21) scottstjohn103: Had to reinstall XP over the weekend and my online registration froze and the machine would not reboot ... (08:48:29) fuzzygroup: lol. welcome to the revolution though. (08:49:02) scottstjohn103: oh it feels good - I woke up this morning wondering if I am doing the right thing and all the things I think I am missing with XP (08:49:22) scottstjohn103: But then I think of all the things I CAN do with Linux and I smile (08:50:23) scottstjohn103: About the only I am missing is one of the guys here does full blown images in Photoshop and likes to have me slice it into HTML and I used to use Image Ready for that (08:50:53) scottstjohn103: Could not find something to do that in Gimp (08:51:18) fuzzygroup: Hm... that's odd (08:52:17) fuzzygroup: http://mmmaybe.gimp.org/tutorials/Perlotine/ (08:52:24) fuzzygroup: how to slice images -- I think that's it (08:52:33) fuzzygroup: Perl-O-Tine is a plug-in that slices an image along guides that you have placed and writes the html table that will put it back together again on a web page. (08:52:57) scottstjohn103: OH that RAWKS
So here's your Linux tip of the day:
Just Ask
You can almost always find someone who can answer the question. Sure Scott could have done the research himself (and he's a smart guy, I know he could have) but you can also just ask.
Now here's your second tip of the day:
Pay It Forward.
Scott can't pay me back for this -- and I wouldn't want him to. But he can help the next person. And that's how all of us from the best to the worst move forward on the *nix front. Bit by bit, question by question.
