Success!

Well I'm happy to report that the new version of Feedster is also quite happy -- we did the update with nary a hiccup.  So that's cool.  Tomorrow I'll be blogging about what changed and posting some images, etc.  For now I'm going to do my very, very best to achieve a state of quiet* unconsciousness.

*I have been known to talk in my sleep from time to time.

Making the Big Switch Tonight

Well I'm in the process of migrating over to the new Feedster code base now so if you see any oddness, please be forgiving.  This is the longest that Feedster has ever gone without an update and that makes this a bit scary.  Its also a bit like going camping but I'll clarify that tomorrow.

Blogging Ettiquette: Cool or Uncool?

I just had the most interesting IM exchange with Scott:

(09:52:03) scottst***: morning Scott, do you also work for Kalsey Consulting?
(09:54:17) fuzzygroup: lol
(09:54:18) fuzzygroup: no
(09:54:36) scottst***: thought so
(09:54:44) scottst***: but saw this in their web site:
(09:55:07) scottst***: he has you as a keyword in his meta tags

Now I understand why -- Adam wrote up "Build Your Brand" and mentioned me in it.  Here are the meta tags:

<meta name="Description" content="Consultants who blog report that their blogs don't earn them clients. So why should they keep on blogging? It builds their brand.">
<meta name="Keywords" content="branding, marketing, consultant, Scott Johnson, coudal, inc, weblogs in business"><link rel="stylesheet" href="/styles/default.css" type="text/css">

So I understand why I'm there but something doesn't feel quite right.  Certainly when you get IMs that ask "do you work for this person?", that feels wrong.  So is this cool or uncool?

More on PHP Templating

Well since I've continued to rip Feedster's guts out templating close to everything, I thought I'd make a few comments.

Harry has a great discussion of php templating although damn if I can find the specific link right now.  The only thing he doesn't seem to address is internationalization / translating which is one of the strongest arguments for templating.  Or did I just blip on it when I read this at 5 am?

Different Template Engines:

There's a bunch of good stuff on Pink Goblin so check it out.

Getting there... Definitely Getting there ...

The next release of Feedster is moving right along.  We'll hopefully update servers today.  Just a quick note that:

  1. Things are moving along nicely.
  2. We've gotten a ton of user feedback lately and while I can't thank everyone since its early and I'm still really, really sleepy, Richard and Natrak -- you rock!
  3. I sat in an Aeron chair yesterday for the 1st time and my back was ***estatic***.  Monday I pulled 18 hours straight save lunch in a deskchair and I'm strongly considering getting one of these gems.  If anyone knows where they can be gotten cheaply, that would be appreciated.
  4. If you're looking to get into PHP and don't like reading books then here is php video training.  Thanks to Arjun Ram for passing that on.
  5. There are a lot of backed up blog entries -- I still have my "This is what I did for Memorial Day entry".  And others if I can find them (blogging tools with out Draft facilities bite; they just plain bite).

More later.
