I had a good time in Belize: great diving, wonderful seafood, and charming people. My dad first took my brother and I down to the island of Ambergris Caye about 30 years ago. Back then the town of San Pedro had two sand streets (Front and Back streets) and about 1,000 people. No cars, no telephones, and no TVs.
Now there are 12,000 people and lots of bustle. Cars and golf carts careen through the mostly sand streets, some of which are paved and have speed bumps. Cable TV and cellphones are everywhere and the island has at least 3 Internet cafes with high-speed connections. Air-conditioning is also a staple amenity found in most hotels and restaurants. And the diving is better than ever now that steps have been taken to protect the reef and its inhabitants (the fish are so used to being fed by divers that they follow you around like street moochers).
Given that the island now has everything I need, I'm thinking of relocating my law practice to San Pedro. I've sent my application in to the most prestigious firm in San Pedro (see picture). Keep your fingers crossed.
