Just thought I'd point out an interesting story for those of you who manage or mangle your own Web site. Written by Jesse James Garrett (yes, that's really his name), this article focuses on a pretty simple method you can use to overcome the problem of overly complex urls (the Lotus Domino effect, I call it). Basically, even if you're stuck with a content delivery system such as Domino, you can provide very simple, top-level directories that point readers to deeper, less obvious content.

Some sites go even further with this principle of supporting URLs that people can guess. I almost never have to navigate Microsoft's site because I can often guess a URL for the content I want. Having trouble with Visio? Try microsoft.com/visio. Need a new driver for that spiffy optical mouse? microsoft.com/mouse will get you there.

Good advice for both users and webmasters, I think.
