Good day everyone. Our latest issue is online for your reading pleasure. We've got a great workshop on current tape-drive technologies by Steven Schuchart. We've also got a timely review of laptop security measures (encryption tools, lock-down devices, and the like) by Michael J. DeMaria. And I've just posted an interesting audio interview with Mir3's Dr. Nasr, in which he and I ponder intelligent messaging for everything from systems management to disaster recovery.

In case you missed the launch of our new bookstore last week, we invite you to pop on over and browse the thousands of available titles, all written by and for information technologists. And while we're talking about the past, this week marks your last chance to compete for a 10Gig iPod from Apple (for either Windows or Mac) with our TechQuiz on authentication.

You can view these and other newly added bits of content here, or you can browse via your RSS reader here.

We're pleased to bring you a newly launched service, designed to help you evaluate and deploy new applications, servers and network infrastructure. Called the Performance Portal, this freely available tool can show you how quickly your database can serve unique queries or to simply assess how well your new e-mail server will perform under load, for example.

Powered by CSA Research, the Performance Portal also can test streaming media, workflow and productivity applications. Plus, you can use our online system to evaluate and compare test results over time as well as download your results in various formats for broad distribution. Give it a whirl, and let us know what you think.

By now you've most likely encountered our September 30th issue and the redesigned layout and content it carries. We truly hope you enjoy it. (For insight into the work that went on behind the scenes in creating this redesign, I invite you to read Amy Lipton's tell all on the matter.)

When you've had a moment to digest the new look/feel issue and perhaps even compare it with older issues, I invite you to send me your comments on its effectiveness. Whether you like it or not, we would greatly appreciate your feedback.

BTW, if you don't have access to the print issue, just take a look at our downloadable PDFs, available for download within all major stories.

Thanks for your help!
