Anchorage city crews labored through the night to haul in snow for the ceremonial start. And amazingly enough, it actually was winter for a twelve block stretch. Of course outside of those twelve blocks, the grass was green and pussy willows were budding.
It appears as if Niek and Dr. Wald are co-sponsoring a team in this year's race.

Clemmie agrees completely. She thinks bombs are way too loud and scary. She vastly prefers bones.

The Iditarod's Anchorage Ceremonial start is a real zoo. Scads of gawkers, novice dog handlers, manic dogs, and Idita-Riders - people who have bid the big bucks to ride in a musher's sled at the Anchorage start.
Here, musher Mitch Seavey, is surrounded by the hoards.
