Wine of the Night

The Ski Boy and I had very nice, dare I say romantic, post surgery celebration dinner at Southside Bistro this evening. The wine was a 1999 Treana Red Table Wine. Very full. Very flavorful. A drop dead combination of Cabernet Sauvingon, Syrah, Merlot, Mourvedre, and Petit Sirah.

I first became acquainted with this wine last year in San Diego with Jim Dunlap. We had dinner at a very fine, gourmet even, Mexican Restaurant. The young wine steward, who was a Mexican woman (a double rarity in the sommelier world) highly recommended the Treana to us. She seemed to know what she was about, so Jim and I went with her recommendation. And what a total killer that wine was. It remains one of my favorites.

Evidently, my favorite satire site, The Onion, is weighing in on the breast discussion that's been raging on Niek's blog.

I realize that speaking out in favor of Europe is not a wise thing to do these days, but I must give credit where credit is due. My tour of Europe last summer opened my eyes to a rich culture where people place a premium on conversations about philosophy and ideas rather than last night's episode of Friends. Food is prepared and savored, not popped in the microwave and inhaled. And women are free to expose their breasts, not forced to hide them behind layers of constricting fabric. Why, oh, why, can't we live in enlightened topless Europe?
