I'm home recovering from surgery and am being waited on hand and foot by the loyal Ski Boy. Mom was super surgery support yesterday. I have such a great team!
My surgery went pretty well although I was on the table for an a hour and a half - quite a bit longer than the last go around. The surgical team was having a difficult time placing the interstim lead in just the right location. They would move it and then test it. During the tests, I would either feel nothing at all or a serious cattle prod jolt in a very sensitive location. But we finally nailed it - just the right strength in the just the right location.
As a result of all that testing, lead moving about and elapsed time on the table, I received quite a bit more anesthetic than I did during the last surgery. The anesthesia nurse was great - she was sitting right next to me and whenever my discomfort level started to increase she would very nicely give me another "boost". As a result, even though I was awake the entire time, the experience was not at all unpleasant. I was able to do my job and pay attention (sort of) during the lead placing.
I also received quite a bit of local anesthetic in my butt - there was a fair amount of digging going on and we had to juice up the hind end more than once. The extra local resulted in a non-functioning right leg which I didn't discover until I stood up to get dressed in recovery. My right leg wouldn't work at all - totally weird feeling. So Mom and I had to stay an extra hour until everyone was satisfied that my leg would recover. I was limping like Chester from Gunsmoke for quite awhile.
Because of the extra drugs, I am still very tired and groggy today. I've slept most of the day and still feel as thick as a brick. My butt is sore but so far pretty bearable.
So, I'm going to crawl back into bed and watch an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer before going to sleep.
