Tonight, Peter and I had dinner at Jen's. In addition to being a fabulous restaurant, Jen's also displays the work of some Alaska's premier artists. Tonight, I absolutely fell in love with the work of Larry Ahvakana.

The two photos on the link above don't do justice to Ahvakana's work. The puffin mask in particular is stunning. It was clear from the several pieces on display that Ahvakana is a master of several mediums. You would never think that the tremendous contempary glass pieces were by the same artist who created the masks. And then there were the sculptures. Wow!

Art like this is why I wouldn't mind being wealthy.

Today I did the 13th annual Alaska Run for Women. It's fund raiser for breast cancer research and education. The race is a wonderful event and one of the largest women only races in the US. And even though it's officially just women, several men proudly run or walk alongside their wives or girlfriends.

Cancer does seem to be a theme this year. I have several friends that are undergoing treatment for breast cancer. And the topper is that today my best friend's Mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. A devastating diagnosis.

As one of my friends whose wife is undergoing treatment for two different types of breast cancer stated, "cancer sucks".
