Well - for the past few years, it seems as if everytime we get sunny hot weather, we get wildfires. And wildfires produce smoke.
When I took Clem out for her morning constitutional at 5:00 AM, I noticed the distinct aroma of wet camp fire. And within the past four hours, the air quality has decreased substantially. The mountains are no longer visible and just sitting here in my office, I can smell the smoke. My asthma is even kicking in.
I suppose it's too much to ask to have sunny weather and no smoke.

In continuing with this morning's Alaska wildlife theme, this morning's Daily News headline article told the story of Bocce, the orphaned walrus pup:
The baby walrus huddled in the hot sun on the Chukchi Sea beach outside Kivalina on Monday afternoon, whining and barking as villagers caressed the dog-sized creature and fed it store milk.
Shirley Adams, a lifelong resident who grew up caring for her sister and cousins, knew a distressed infant when she saw one.
"I sat down and I let it go on top of my legs, and then it started going on top of my upper body," the 21-year-old Adams said. "And then I held it and pet it and held it like a mother would hold a child. ... It's something I would never forget for the rest of my life."
Awwwww.....
Here's a picture of Bocce - he is soooooooo cute.

Yesterday morning, a moose checked itself in to Alaska Regional Hospital. It's been quite hot and folks, including the hospital, are leaving their doors open to try to cool things down. Well, one curious bullwinkle took advantage of the open door policy and checked out Alaska Regional's facilities.
Click on this link for the incredibly funny video of the moose walking in the open door and down the hallway. It is hilarious. Note: registration is required to view the video. But trust me - it's worth it!
