Yesterday was the Summer Solstice - a very big deal here in Alaska. It's the longest day of the year. Total daylight yesterday in Anchorage was 19 hours and 21 minutes. The sun rose at 4:22 AM and set at 11:23 PM. And because of the angle of the sun at our latitude (61 degrees N), it never really gets dark - we just have a very long period of dusk.
So even though it's a time for celebration, Peter is now officially depressed - the days are getting shorter and in no time at all the fireweed will bloom, then top out, then six weeks 'till snow!!!!!!
