Ok, I'm not doing to well on my resolve to cut down on blog reading. However, tonight in my wanderings I ran across a very well done blog by a young man named Ryan. In it, he describes an encounter with a door-to-door evangelist. [Complete story.]

The Peruvian Congressman Dr. Edgar David Villanueva Nuñez answers a letter from the Peruvian General Manager of Microsoft regarding a proposed law about Free software in public administration. [kuro5hin.org]
I'm not pointing to this story because I want to bash Microsoft. Neither do I advocate the ban of commercial or proprietary software. However, I am fascinated by this letter from Dr. Nuñez. He argues from a basic belief that in a democratic republic, the information entrusted to the government must be stored in an open format that can be accessed and manipulated using software that is not bound by proprietary restrictions. The two sides of this argument are in stark contrast with Dr. Nuñez arguing from well reasoned conviction, and the Microsoft representative using manipulative rhetoric.
