Another interesting quote from the Daily Dig:
Shall I tell you the secret of the whole world? It is that we have only known the back of the world. We see everything from behind, and it looks brutal. That is not a tree, but the back of a tree. That is not a cloud, but the back of a cloud. Cannot you see that everything is stooping and hiding a face? If we could only get round in front...

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God--not because of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
This is a favorite passage in the churches of my evangelical heritage, except that only verses eight and nine were quoted, always stopping at the word "boast". The first two verses speak of the free grace of God, but verse ten tells us the purpose, which is to change us so that we can be what we were created to be. God made each of us for a purpose, but each of us has taken charge and has gone his own way. This rebellion has ruined our lives, but God offers free forgiveness and restoration for the purpose of getting us back on the track of living the life He planned for us. Salvation is not getting a "get out of hell free" pass. It is the transformation of a life that was headed towards destruction, into a life of purpose and glory.
