The XBox has some tough competition in Sony and Nintendo. Yet, I regularly hear people overestimate it based on the assumption that, since it's backed by Microsoft, somehow it is going to dominate the industry. Of course, we all know Microsoft's track-record in the PC world. However, Microsoft's ability to demolish its competition in the PC market is largely the result of its ability to leverage the dominate position of its OS. They have no such leverage in the console market. According to CNET, the XBox is behind both Sony and Nintendo in sales [here].

Many gamers claim that the XBox delivers superior technology, but it has yet to prove that it delivers superior games. Most games for XBox are also available on GameCube and PlayStation II. Many are even available on the PC. Halo is one of the most amazing games I've ever seen, but even it will be available on PC soon and it takes more than one game to sell a console system. I will keep my money in my wallet for the time being, although with the XBox retailing for only $199, it may be worth the expenditure anyway.

Satellite Image of Hurricane IsadoreHurricane Isadore hit the northern Yucatan this week. The storm moved along the northern coast of the penninsula, finally dipping to the south where the eye nearly hit Merida, the largest city in the region [here]. Andrea and I were in Cancun just a week ago. We had nothing but warm and sunny days. Last year, Andrea and I were also in Cancun for September 11th. If we would have been there for Isadore, I think I might have retired from vacationing for life.

I am coaching a soccer team this season. Last week, we won 11-3. I started to feel bad for the opposing team, since they're only 11 and 12 years old, but there wasn't anything I could do about it. These kids are good! This week it was even worse, we won 11-0. I hope the season continues on like this. We are the BU12 Pythons in the Silver B division. Check out our standings here.
