I just finished reading a NYT's piece about Sayyid Qutb, philopher of Islamic extremists. What is most compelling about the article, and his perspective, is that they are grounded in a world of ideas, ideas with intent, agree or disagree with the directions he espouses.
Raed, the Iraqi blogger, has a tagline on his blog that states that the Western world dominates not because of better ideas or religion or politics but because of our ability to wield organized violence.
This is something, this ideological vacuum, is not something I care to grapple with right now.
I dreamt last night of stationary cars and mayhem in the streets outside my home. Someone had dismantled the lock to my front door, but not come inside. I noticed none of this from inside the safety and stillness. And it was dark, so dark, even at 7:30am.
