I remember writing a paper for a literary analysis program at Northwestern one summer about how analyzing literature diminished the value of reading literature. That the transcendent now of reading would be undermined by understanding patterns of story and of language. Which is, now, something I appreciate as great bravado, and something Ms. Schnede must have loved as such.

And now, I am falling in love with music again, twenty years later, as I begin the explore the patterns of story and of language girding notes.
