This morning, amidst all the weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth in the halls of PeopleSoft, I tendered my resignation. Starting with the New Year I'll be joining the Database User Technology team at IBM's Silicon Valley Lab. Of course I had no idea on Friday afternoon, when I accepted IBM's offer and scheduled a meeting with my manager for Monday morning (to give my notice), that my timing would look so good. I wish everyone at PeopleSoft the best, but I won't be joining them for the transition to OracleSoft.

My parting advice to my PS cow-orkers: I cannot emphasize enough the value of networking for finding a job; I cannot emphasize enough the value of STC for networking; and I cannot emphasize enough the value of volunteering within STC for developing a network.

This morning's bombshell:

Oracle Ups Its Offer and Buys PeopleSoft for $10.3 Billion. The acquisition will elevate No.3-ranked Oracle to No.2, behind SAP of Germany, the world's biggest maker of business-management software. By By TERENCE NEILAN. [NYT > Home Page]

PeopleSoft gives in, accepts Oracle's $10.3B bid. Business software giant Oracle (ORCL) announced Monday that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire rival PeopleSoft (PSFT) after sweetening its offer by 10% to approximately $10.3 billion. [USATODAY.com News - Top Stories]

etc., etc., etc.

More news later; I'm on my way to Pleasanton this morning.
