There's increasing buzz around DITA, the Darwin Information Typing Architecture, an XML DTD designed for high-quality documentation projects. DITA is now an open-source standard, but it originated in IBM. Which means it's the tool that I use now.

I first heard about DITA three or four years ago. I took a look at the info on IBM's Developer Works site, and was sold. It was so clearly superior to the crippled DTD that we were using at PeopleSoft, I was instantly spoiled. DITA is one of the reasons I wanted to go to work at IBM, and I'm not disappointed.

Scott the Content Wrangler points at a couple of DITA webinars and some info from Rockley that might interest those of you who don't know about DITA. JoAnn Hackos is putting on training sessions, too. And there's a Yahoo! discussion group, dita-users, that you can join for education and help.

So what are you waiting for?
