I used to work as a temp at Pillsbury. While I was there I read in a book instructions detailing exactly how the doughboy was to be treated to give him a cohesive image. Here is what I remember:
1. The gender of the doughboy is never discussed. No wife or other female dough-person can be introduced because this will lead to questions about the doughboy's gender. (A female dough-person was introduced years ago but was quickly pulled)
2. The doughboy cannot do kitchen work for people or make treats bake faster. His magic powers are limited to coming to life out of the dough.
3. The doughboy must never be stretched, bounced, burned or twisted.
