I didn't write much about New York yet, but one of the highlights was going to McCoy's pub with Mike and Sean and drinking Guiness after Guiness and just laughing at their stories. They are real New Yorkers, Sean doing art deals with restaurants for his pottery and Mike prosecuting sex offenders in Brooklyn.

Ick.  I wonder if they will feature this in the Macalester Alumni Magazine?

urk.  Here is an opinion piece the offender wrote for the school newspaper.

There is a video series for children called  "The  Wigglies" with such titles as "wiggly party"  Shameless adults with British accents trying to move in on the success of other British childrens shows.  Just excruciating garbage.  Anyway, they have them at the library and Maggie saw them and wanted to check it out.  Kate "accidently" left it on a shelf and didn't check it out.  This morning, Maggie gets out of bed and wants to know where the Wiggly video is.  Kate was like, " I think we left it at the library accidently."

and Maggie's reply was, "Or maybe we left it at the library because mama didn't like it "

See, we are already using our best mental ju-jitsu on this girl and it is wearing off.  In the not to distant future, you will come to our house and Maggie will be in charge of the household.  She will greet you at the door and tell you that she locked us to our room for some offense and there will be nothing we can do about it.

I went to see my father-in-law this morning.  He just had a knee replaced and has to take short walks every day to strengthen and stretch.  He also has to sit in a stretchin' machine to break through the scar tissue.  If he doesn't get this done then that knee won't ever straighten again.  He is very pleased with the results.  His sharp, grinding knee pain is gone.  He has some muscle pain as the remaining tendons and muscles in his knee repaired themselves and adjusted to their new duties.  A lot of the delicate balance mechanisms are simply gone from that knee and so he walks with a cane.  Eventually, his remaining parts will adjust to their new roles and he'll be able to cruise around.  While we were on our walk, he stubbed his toe and said, "See, if I had done that before my new knee, it would have meant massive pain".  It is amazing what we can do.
