Mikhail Iliev
Verse of Love and Loss.

iliev book
A very good friend, Mikhail Iliev, from my time in Hoboken, NJ, has finally published a collection of his poems, which he writes in his spare time. "A silly verse I have been writing on and off for 10 years", Mikhail writes, but having read some of them already, I know they are good poems. I just ordered the book myself, and would blindly recommend it.

Now if only Mikhail would start a weblog...

Thomson / RCA
Thomson Unleashes Mega Gadget Load, Kneels Before Broadcast Flag. Thomson (and subsidiary RCA) has stepped up the full-scale barrage of gadgets, announcing everything from a new DLP High Definition TV that is so thin it can mounted on the wall (though common for plasma screens, this is a significant improvement for the higher-quality DLPs) to complete redesigns of several of their MP3 players.

The new DLP, similar to the one we profiled last month, measures just 7" thick and comes in 50", 60" and a forthcoming whopping 70" models. Prices are expected to range upwards of $10,000.

On the downside, Thomson's proudly announced its new set-top boxes and TVs will include High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) with HDCP copy protection, and will integrate "broadcast flag" recognition, which is a copyright protection scheme encouraged by big media companies to limit recording and distribution of programs

Thomson also introduced five new or revised MP3 players. The Lyra jukeboxes have gotten a little slimmer (like most of us want to after x-mas), though they are still among the thickest on the market at an inch. The new Lyra's do add an FM receiver and MP3 recording capabilities, vastly increasing their utility. An enhanced file management and navigation system is also expected. The 40 gig Lyra will cost $450 and the 20 gig will go for $350.

A revised Micro Jukebox MP3 player will sport a 2 gig HD and also has an FM radio and recording features, and will cost just $230. Schedule for release "this summer," I expect it will have a 4 gig drive for the same price by that time.

A few tiny flash MP3 players have also been released with less than stellar specs: 128 megs for $150, 256 megs for $200, both with FM tuners. Can it be, have they not heard? Flash is dead! [Street Tech]

Arizonans for Howard Dean
AZ DEAN DIGEST

Arizonans for Howard Dean

An electronic update about Arizonans for Howard Dean.

January 8, 2003-26 days until the Arizona Presidential Preference Election

IN THIS ISSUE **Message from Arizona State Campaign Director** **January Meetups Focus on Arizona** **A Note From The Maricopa County Volunteer Coordinator** **Dean Team Leaders Are Up For The Challenge** **Arizona Campaign Adds Staff** **Dean For America AZ Opens Cochise Office**

Message from Arizona State Campaign Director

Dear Dean Supporter,

We are in the waning days of the Arizona 2004 Presidential Preference Primary. We have come a long way from the first time Govenor Dean arrived in Arizona to speak at Mesa Community College. At that time, the Governor was an unknown former elected official at about 2% in the polls. Now, some believe he is the front-runner.

Dr. Dean is an appealing candidate with a necessary message. However, the only reason he is doing so well is because of you. Your enormous grass-roots organizing and funding efforts are what will insure Howard Dean gets the nomination and ultimately unseats Mr. Bush. Your dedication and strength will help us send this dangerous administration packing.

We are in crunch time. As I write this, we have one month to insure we find every Dean voter we can in Arizona; to ensure that those voters vote, preferably by mail but definitely vote; and to ensure that the Governor's message is fairly and accurately portrayed.

We need your help. We need you to contact us to help make phone calls, collect Vote By Mail requests, drive people to the polls, walk neighborhoods, hand-out literature and so much more. Please contact us to help during these last few critical weeks. Keep in mind that you are the reason we are winning.

The other candidates have embarked on single state strategies where they can concentrate their efforts and resources in one area. We have opted for a multi-state strategy to show we can win across the United States. That means our resources are stretched and we must rely on you and your shoe leather to win this nomination. The Doctor Is In!

January Meetups Focus on Arizona

Dean supporters wrote letters to uncommitted Arizona Democrats at many of the Jan. 7 Meetups, urging them to vote for Gov. Dean Feb. 3. The message for this last Meetup before the Arizona Presidential Preference Primary was: Vote By Mail. Meetups were scheduled in Flagstaff, Prescott, Sierra Vista, Tucson, Yuma, Mesa, Chandler, Surprise, Tempe, Glendale, Scottsdale, and Phoenix.

A Note From The Maricopa County Volunteer Coordinator

Hi, My name is Karen Turney and I am a political junkie. Or so I thought, until Governor Howard Dean entered the race for the presidency. What I am is a proud Democrat.

I am a Democrat that does not want to roll over and agree with the president because it is "politically correct". Governor Howard Dean acknowledged my feelings and those of many other Democrats and Americans.

It has been the greatest pleasure to watch the Arizona effort grow by leaps and bounds daily. Having worked many other campaigns in the last decade, never have I seen such enthusiasm and volunteerism.

I can put my head on the pillow every night and know there is hope for America, and that you, the thousands of Arizona volunteers, are making that possible. I thank you with deep gratitude and ask that we all continue on our journey to take this county back.

- Karen Turney, Maricopa County Volunteer Coordinator; 602-954-5215

Dean Team Leaders Are Up For Challenge

Arizona State Campaign Director Frank Costanzo recently told Arizona Dean Team Leaders that "it is important that we meet our goal for identifying voters. We can win in Arizona but only with your help."

If you are not yet a Dean Team Leader, and want to spent only one hour a week to help change history and "Take Back America," then call Ellen Terry at Arizona Dean headquarters at 602-954-5215. Learn how easy it is to be part of this exciting effort.

Arizona Campaign Adds Staff

Alexis Tamerón recently was hired as Arizona Deputy State Director. She most recently worked as the political director for the Arizona Democratic Party. One of her roles will be to serve as liaison to unions, elected officials, and prospective endorsers.

Four others were added to the state campaign: David Lelsz, Phoenix Headquarters Office Director; Ellen Terry, Dean Team Leader Program Director in Phoenix; Tom Fry of Sedona, Northern Arizona Field Director; and Peter Newton in Tucson, Southern Arizona Assistant Field Director.

Dean For America AZ Opens Cochise Office

Gov. Dean recognizes that Cochise County is critical in Arizona's Feb. 3 election. That's why the campaign recently opened an office in Bisbee. It is located on Highway 92 in Bisbee, just east of the Safeway Plaza.

"The opening of the Cochise County office reflects the significance that the campaign places on rural voters," said State Campaign Director Frank Costanzo. This is the third Dean for America office to open in Arizona. The campaign also has offices in Phoenix and Tucson.

Britt Hanson, Dean for America's Cochise County Coordinator, noted that Dean already has heavy support in Cochise as indicated by the crowd of 600 at Dean?s Dec. 16 rally in Sierra Vista.

Jan Munsey of Bisbee is the office manager for the new Cochise office. Volunteers from throughout Cochise County will staff the office seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Contact the office at 520-432-5191; BisbeeDean@CableOne.net

Impressioni.
