Graphic Novel, Comic Art Master Passes Away R.I.P. Will Eisner. Will Eisner Dies at age 86 The father of the modern Graphic Novel and hugely influential comics figure has died today from heart surgery complications. His concept of Sequential Art helped move comics out of the idea of being solely "kid's stuff" and was seen as a cannon in the comic art world. Announced and blogged a month ago, the new MP3 Surround file format is now officially released by the Fraunhofer Institute and Thomson Electronics, inventors of MP3 compression. When one considers that the popularity of MP3 is based on convenience, not high fidelity or special effects, success is difficult to predict. But the format might gain some traction among those who collect soundtrack MP3s, and other genres which typically lend themselves to fractioning the stereo image. But these days, nearly the entire emphasis of MP3 is portability, and surround sound doesn’t mean a thing when you’re listening through ear buds. En passant, gros mercis à Laurence pour les cadeaux, en particulier pour le chandail kangourou qui se retrouve déjà parmi mes vêtements favoris. Les disques durs contenant les fichiers Weed de CD Baby ont finalement été expédiés de Portland aujourd'hui. Si tout se déroule comme prévu, je les recevrai donc cette semaine, voire même demain. Si je comprends bien, le dernier droit vers la stabilité s'amorce. Et justement, dimanche après-midi, à mon retour du brunch qui se tenait chez mon frère, j'ai eu la surprise de constater une petite mare d'eau autour de la fournaise. Après consultation auprès du technicien chargé de l'entretien du système de chauffage de la maison, j'ai découvert que la fuite était due à un comportement tout à fait normal : compte-tenu que le réservoir d'expansion était plein et que la pression dans le système atteignait son seuil critique, l'eau s'écoulait nécessairement par la soupape de sûreté. J'ai donc procédé à une vidange. J'avais l'intention de me remettre au travail dès mon retour, mais étant donnés l'équipement disponible et la position du réservoir en question, il a fallu que je supervise toute l'opération, et j'ai donc eu droit à une pause forcée. Évènement plutôt banal dans une interprétation matérialiste de la réalité, mais manifestation nécessaire si on interprète les faits autrement, en considérant que tout au long du travail de préparation en vue de l'hébergement des fichiers de CD Baby, je me suis mis beaucoup de pression sur les épaules, particulièrement en m'imaginant que j'allais traverser une épreuve inhumaine au cours de laquelle j'allais devoir consacrer toutes mes énergies à l'ajout de fichiers au site de distribution. Déjà que ces dernières semaines m'avaient épuisé, le prospect de l'arrivée imminente de ce défi avait suffit à me plonger dans un océan d'appréhension. Mais en même temps que j'observais l'eau s'écouler du réservoir, je comprenais que j'allais procéder autrement, et je sentais du même coup la pression s'envoler. Et dans le même ordre d'idées, "The Shawshank Redemption" était diffusé samedi soir à la télé d'état, et je l'ai savouré avec joie. Le message me semble donc plutôt clair : rien ne sert de risquer de me brûler en sprintant le dernier droit, vaut mieux procéder sagement, et en faire un petit peu à chaque jour. À ajouter à la catégorie "Votre univers vous parle". Du moins, comme dans Wonderfalls, il parle à ceux qui veulent bien accepter d'écouter. Et tout ça illustre à merveille la métaphore bouddhiste.
