Another warm summer evening

While I was grilling our hamburgers on the Webber and watering my flowers this evening, the most vivid memories of cookouts at Daughter's other grandmother's house came flooding back. Louise would make the big fat hamburgers and Kes woul grill them in an outdoor fireplace type grill. Lousie always baked large homemade rolls/buns to go with the hamburgers. She also served potato salad, sliced tomatoes, onions, and cottage cheese. She fixed ice tea and served it in White Horse whiskey bottle glasses (the white horse was etched on the glass----the bottle neck had been cut off and the edge beveled). I can remember stirring the sugar in the glass with Mexican silver sippers.

I have memories of the hot kitchen and putting the food, plates, and silver on the big tray and carrying it outdoors into the cool garden. After supper we sat around visiting and watching the fire flies and the stars. Finally it was time to leave the cool garden carry the remains back into the hot kitchen and do the dishes as quickly as possible.
