New widescreen laptop from Dell.

"inspn_8500_highlights.jpgIt started with the 200A5 from vpr Matrix; now the trend of putting widescreen displays in PC laptops continues, with Dell of all companies coming out with a new widescreen laptop. Their new Inspiron 8500 has a wide aspect 1900x1200 pixel 15.4-inch WUXGA screen, which is reportedly enough resolution for high-definition television. The rest of the computer is no slouch either - the 8500 has a 2.4GHz processor, a 32MB video card, 60GB hard drive, and up to 2GB of RAM."

Nice article in USAToday: Hello, tech designers? This stuff is too small.

We've got an aging populations with a penchant for new and smaller gadgets.  No one wants to carry another device, so we ask for smaller things, yet, we have a hard time operating tiny things, with tiny buttons.

What are our options?  My new Motorola V720 has a voice dial button that works really, really well... press the side button, say the person's name.  It repeats the name back to you for confrimations ( a lovely touch ) and then dials the number.  I can see more voice operated software once the recognition gets as simple as that.

The other thought I had was that people will be more apt to upgrade their bodies with devices rather than carry them. By implanting devices, we certainly don't have to carry them. Scary, eh?
