A picture named kerrygaydos.jpgMy Aunt Lisa pointed me to my cousin Kerry's picture that was put into a collage by the company that took her senior portrait.  Kerry's on Michigan State's women's club crew team which competed last Saturday.

I'm glad to see this technology becoming more stuctured.  Back in the day (1995), Edict did some internal cgi-bin programming (has it been that long?) with a dialogic card in a 486 that used to answer the phones then put the voicemail up on an extranet as a .wav file.  At the time, we took it for granted even though it was pretty cutting edge.  Now we are here:

"PhoneBlogger is an automated voice application that first asks you for info about which pre-configured blog you wish to post to. After collecting the necessary information, PhoneBlogger records your audio message. Finally, it posts a blog entry that links to the recorded audio.

In a little more technical detail, PhoneBlogger is a VoiceXML application. It uses speech recognition and text to speech to collect information from you over the phone concerning the blog to which you want to post. A couple Python CGI scripts and some other programs are used to save the audio and convert it to an audio file format that can be easily played in a web browser. An XML-RPC call is used to post a blog entry linking to the audio file. " [via Marc's Voice and Audioblog/Mobileblogging News]

Maggie & Anita

I don't think my grandmother knew her picture would be posted on her personal trainer's website, but she and her friend Maggie look pretty buff!

What a great idea!  I wonder if any of these functions will filter down into regular phones.

"alvampo.jpgThis certainly makes plenty of sense: a combination cellphone/PDA for the blind. The ALVA MPO 5500 is a tri-band GSM phone that has a Braille keypad, a digital speech synthesizer, and a "screen" made of refreshable Braille cells. It can do text messaging and upcoming versions are supposed to include email, a web browser, GPS, and an MP3 player." [via Gizmodo]
