I just got done replacing the thermal assembly on Aunt Nancy's laptop. Word to the wise: if you have to replace the fan or any part of the thermal assembly on an Inspiron 3800, you have to take everything apart.
Dell has nice step by step instructions, but it takes a while to do.
If you happen to work for Dell and are reading this, let whoever tightens the screws connecting the system board assembly to the thermal assembly that they could do without the extra torque at the end. The only way I could loosen them at the angle they were at was to use a pair of needle nose pliers with my jewler's screwdriver set to unfreeze them. Not exactly fun to do with the processor right next to the screws.
I'd love to have someone make a tool that is like an L shaped hex set, but with a tiny philips head instead. Is there such a thing?
