InfoWorld: Amazon licenses Google technology. Google's Web search feature and sponsored links will be available on Amazon.com's Web site, thanks to an agreement the two companies announced on Thursday. Check out the latest edition of SPARC E-News. There is an interesting article about creating journals that offer the option for authors (or rather, their institutions or funding bodies) to cover the costs of publication and peer review, in exchange for the publisher making the paper freely accessible.
"This preserves the impact factor and prestige that comes from being published in a leading journal, while adding the increased visibility and impact of open access." [via HubLog]

" The latest version of Sony's CoCoon digital video recorder, the NDR-XR1, can record up to 90 hours of television programming, but here's the kicker: it also has a built-in DVD burner that you can use to archive shows that are recorded on the hard drive. TiVo doesn't have the guts to put out a box that does this, and it's too early to tell whether Sony would risk the television industry's wrath and release the NDR-XR1 in the US. Let's hope they do."
