It's not very often you hear of a new spherical panhead, but there's
two: Peace River has a new product called the 3Sixty
Multi-row Attachment,
while Manfrotto has come out with the 303
PLUS SPH 'Multi-Row' Panoramic Tripod Head.
Scott Highton relates the following:
"Virtual Reality Photography (www.vrphotography.com) has been asked to
do a comparison review of the current VR panoramic head models from the
three major manufacturers -- Bogen/Manfrotto, Kaidan, and Peace River
Studios. This is of interest since most of them have recently updated
their models and now feature aligned multi-row shooting capability for
cubic and spherical capture.
As a part of this process, we'd like to hear from all you current VR
head users out there about what features and capabilities are important
to you in your use of such heads. We want to hear about things like
weight, sturdiness, size, simplicity, flexibility, single vs.
multi-row, etc. -- and which of these sorts of features are most
important to you. What features you would look for in an ideal VR head?
Are there any pet peeves you have about equipment you've used which
you'd like to see fixed (you don't have to mention the brand or model
publicly if you don't want)?
If you could build your own head, what would it be like? What is a
reasonable price to pay for an "ideal" head?
Finally, for the majority of your work, what lens (focal length) do you
use and how many shots do you generally shoot for a 360-degree
panorama?
Please feel free to post your responses privately to: info@vrphotography.com"

Purpose |
VRlog provides news, developments and analysis of the virtual reality (VR) world from a nature photographer's perspective. Since I am not connected to or funded by any VR vendor, I intend to objectively appraise what's going on, and the direction VR is headed in. -- erik goetze
