The NY Times looks at developments in the panoramic photography world: "The Sweeping View From Inside a Digital Bubble". Technology/Circuits article by Matthew Mirapaul. I like that the article contains some realism about the amount of time to build a cubic panorama. Towards the end, we find out that it can take Tito Dupret up to two days to stitch a panorama on his laptop from 10 horizontal images, 9 top row images, and 9 bottom row images. Some people claim that every spherical (or "cubic" in QuickTime parlance) panorama can be stitched in less than an hour. My experience is every cubic I've done takes me 3-8 hours to stitch. One reason might be that getting 28 images of a sphere to seamlessly meld together into a high quality image is harder than placing and stitching a cylinder of 10-12 images. My hope is for spherical software to get better and easier to use. 9:30:00 PM

Nature Photographers Online Magazine has an article on Making Panoramic Images without a Panoramic Camera, by E.J. Peiker. The author walks through the steps to make a panorama with a  35mm camera (but without a panhead). The article appears to be aimed at a regular photographer with no VR experience.
